He’s the Man to watch

Last year, Manduro rounded off his first season with Mandaean’s outstanding victory in the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud. With his first crop now making their three-year-old debuts, his 2012 season is certainly shaping up to be an exciting one

The 2012 season may only just be getting started, but Manduro’s winners’ total is already into double figures and several of these look like extremely exciting prospects for the summer.

Since 21 March, Manduro has recorded seven individual winners. Sopran Montieri headed up an on-the-day-double for his sire, winning in impressive fashion on his debut in Milan.

A few days later, Miss Manduro maintained her unbeaten record in style when leading from start to finish in a Rome conditions race, following up her outstanding 13-length victory on her only start at two.

On 2 April, Linda Radlett made a successful racecourse debut at Chantilly and as the holder of numerous smart entries for this year, is clearly well regarded by her trainer Andre Fabre.

Some of Manduro’s best prospects have yet to make their seasonal bows, including his four Derby entrants; unbeaten G1 winner Mandaean, Bonfire – who was desperately unlucky not to win the G1 Criterium International, Alain de Royer-Dupre’s Apollo Eleven, and Mysterious Man, trained by Andrew Balding.

In Manduro’s native Germany, Kolonel is flying the flag for his sire, unbeaten last year and currently second favourite for the German Derby.

With exciting runners such as these to look forward to, 2012 could well be Manduro’s year.
