Fractional far from incomplete at Maisons-Laffitte

Second Stakes winner in 24 hours for Manduro as his son records another Group win

Less than 24 hours after Pitch became a new Stakes winner for Manduro, one of his more seasoned campaigners, Fractional, added further Black type to his record when landing the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte.

Held up towards the rear under Maxime Guyon, the five-year-old travelled well throughout and swept down the home straight to take the lead close to home and win the ten-furlong contest by a length.

Fractional, who is owned by Godolphin and trained by Andre Fabre, won four times as a three-year-old, including victories in the G3 Prix Quincey and Listed Prix de Tourgeville. He was also third in the G2 Prix Eugene Adam that year. A serious injury kept him off the track at four but since returning this year, he has made a remarkable comeback – winning twice before today’s convincing victory.

Bred by Darley, he is out of the G1-placed, Stakes-winning Royal Academy mare Sharp Point. She is also dam of multiple Group winner Needlecraft (Mark Of Esteem) and is from the family of G1 winners Tirol and Lavery.

Manduro is also sire this year of G1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Ribbons, plus unbeaten Group winner Meerjungfrau. He is also sire of two further G1 winners in Mandaean and Charity Line.
