Bawina strikes at Maisons-Laffitte

Daughter of Dubawi wins the Listed Prix de Bagatelle

Dubawi's high-class daughter Bawina won her first Stakes race on Sunday July 27 when successful in the Listed Prix de Bagatelle over a mile at Maisons-Laffitte. Victorious in both of her first two starts in 2014 at Saint-Cloud, she then ran an excellent race to finish fourth in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, with today's easy three-length victory her third in six career starts.

Owned and bred by Wertheimer & Frere, Bawina is out of the winning Sadler's Wells mare Esneh, herself a daughter of Stakes winner Egyptown and a half-sister to Prix de Diane heroine Egyptband.

Bawina is the eighth Stakes winner to be bred from Dubawi's fifth crop that includes the 2,000 Guineas hero Night Of Thunder, and his second Stakes winner of the weekend after Sheikhzayedroad thrilling victory in the G2 York Stakes. Sheikhzayedroad is one of 33 individual Group winners to hail from the first three European crops, with his closest pursuers Galileo and Oasis Dream 11 Group winners behind him at the same point in time.
