Baltic Baroness strikes again

Shamardal filly lands the Prix de la Pepiniere at Maisons-Laffitte

Shamardal’s four-year-old daughter Baltic Baroness added a third win at Stakes level and her second this year when landing the Listed Prix de la Pepiniere, run over ten furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte.

Her three-quarter length victory over last-time-out winner Sparkling Beam added further Black type to her record, following her win in the G3 Prix Cleopatre last May, plus victory in the Listed Grand Prix de Compiegne in June.

Owned and bred by Gestut Ammerland, Baltic Baroness if a half-brother to two Stakes performers in Baltic Rock and Baltic Storm. Her dam, the winning Sadler's Wells mare Born Wild, who is a daughter of German Derby winner Borgia, is in foal to Shamardal again this season.

Shamardal has now sired no fewer than 18 Stakes winners this year, headed by G1 Eclipse winner Mukhadram, plus fellow G1 winner Dunboyne Express who added another victory at the highest level to his record in May. He is also sire of G1 performers Ihtimal and Able Friend and nine 2014 Group winners in total.
